In order to combat the additional wear and tear of e-bikes, we designed our HTZ rims to be burlier in every imaginable way. The thickest rim walls we offer, a proven I-Beam center support, asymmetrical spoke hole drilling and dependable 6069 aluminum alloy deliver a bombproof rim that doesn't break the bank. HTZ i35 and i40 rims are optimized for your e-assist trail bike running 2.6-3.0" tires.

I-Beam Support

Vertical support within the inner rim cavity that drastically increases the strength and rigidity of our toughest rims. The additional reinforcement counteracts spoke loads and provides lateral rigidity, which is increasingly important for e-bike rims.The I-Beam on the HTZ is thicker than any other WTB rim.

Proudly Overbuilt

HTZ e-bike rims are proudly overbuilt to provide an incredibly durable alloy rim at an affordable price. They're available in five different inner widths range from 23mm to 40mm, making them perfect for a wide range of bikes ranging from e-assist gravel bikes to dual-crown downhill bikes that no longer need a truck to be shuttled.

TCS Solid Strip

Durable nylon strip that lies between the rim and tubeless tape to prevent tubeless tape from pushing into the spoke holes and ensures a smooth interface between the tire and rim. The smooth surface makes it easier to mount a tire by preventing air from escaping around the bead at each indent during inflation. Solid Strip also protects the airtight system from puncture in the case of a broken spoke.

35mm inner rim width

Rims with an inner rim width of 35-40mm are designed for tires widths ranging from 2.6-3.0". Pairing a wider rim to wider tires ensures optimal sidewall support and tire volume, which allows riders to run lower air pressure and fully benefit from the advantages of 2.6-3.0" tires. Preference will determine which of the two widths is best for you, but take into account that the 35mm width will provide a rounded tire profile while the 40mm width will provide a flatter tire profile.

Technology

TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) is our industry-leading tubeless rim/tire system designed to international ETRTO and ISO standards.

6069 is the perfect aluminum alloy for bicycle rims due to its high tensile and fatigue strength, minimal weight, and excellent anti-corrosion properties.

Spoke holes are drilled at an angle to match the natural spoke path between a rim and hub. Eliminates binding and lateral loading of the nipples to increase wheel durability.

Rim ends are hydraulically pressed over an extruded aluminum insert that matches the inner cavity of the rim and is further reinforced by industrial epoxy.

Asymmetrically offset spoke holes create a stronger wheel by placing the holes more in line with the center of the hub and more evenly distributing spoke tension.

Vertical support within the inner rim cavity that drastically increases the strength and rigidity of our toughest rims.

Sloped rim valley allows the bead of the tire to easily and smoothly move into place during installation and inflation.

Installed between the rim and tubeless tape to prevent tape from sagging at each spoke hole and make tire inflation easier while also preventing puncture from a broken spoke.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DOES RIM WIDTH AFFECT TIRE VOLUME AND PROFILE?

Wider rims will cause a tire to also have a wider width, with more air volume within the tire and a flatter tire tread profile than designed for. As a general rule of thumb, a 2mm increase or decrease of inner rim width will result in a tire section width increase or decrease of 1mm. For example, our Nano 40 tire has a tire section width of 40mm on a 21mm inner rim width, however it will have a tire section width of 41mm on a 23mm inner rim width.

WHICH TUBELESS VALVE LENGTH IS BEST FOR THIS RIM?

All of our alloy rims are best paired with a 34mm valve stem. If you are using a deeper dish rim, like our CZR i23 rim, then we recommend the 46mm long valve stem. CZR i30 rims accept either length of valve.

WHICH WIDTH OF TCS TAPE SHOULD I USE TO SET THIS RIM UP TUBELESS?

WTB recommends using tape that is 5mm wider than the inner rim width. All WTB rims have the inner rim width listed in the name (i.e. HTZ i35 rim requires 40mm TCS Tubeless Tape).

ARE THERE TRICKS TO INSTALLING A TIRE ON AN ASYMMETRICAL RIM?

Asymmetrical rims feature a "short" and "long" side. It is helpful to always mount both sides of the tire onto the rim on the "short side" of the rim. The short side of the rim provides the shortest distance between the rim leg/bead and the valley of the rim. Once the first tire bead is completely on the rim, it can be pulled over the rubber portion of the valve and positioned at the deepest part of the rim valley. The other side of the tire can then be installed onto the rim with the least amount of resistance.

HOW DO YOU INSTALL TIRE INSERTS ON AN ASYMMETRICAL RIM?

Aluminum Alloy Workhorse

Carbon fiber is often presented as the superior material, but it isn't necessarily best for every application. Carbon is strong until it isn't, and those "isn't" moments are generally the extremely heavy hits where everything bottoms out and any material proves to be weaker than rock. With the additional weight of e-bikes, riders often compensate with excessively high tire pressures or those heavy hits are happening far more often. Aluminum alloy does an excellent job of taking one for the team and absorbing those massive impacts. Oh yeah, it's also easier on the wallet, so you can spend less time working and more time riding.
